In this bible passage, it talks about this man Simeon whom God told him that he wouldn't die till he met Christ.
I thought about this man, and all his reactions in the passage.
He was inspired by the spirit to go to the temple. This only means that he was prompted by the Spirit to go to the temple, it wasn't a MUST. I felt that he went in faith, not knowing what to expect!
He knew the Spirit when it prompted, and it just came to me that Simeon must have been walking very closely with God when the Spirit prompted. If he wasn't walking closely with God, he would have never recognised that it was the Spirit that was prompting him.
He also trusted in the promptings of the Spirit, he allowed the Spirit to lead him! God always has great, amazing things planned out for us, but in his time. He definitely won't take us home until we have finished our purpose here on earth, just like Simeon, whom God said that he wouldn't die till he saw Christ.
When I was reading this entire passage, the values of being a Christian just started showing so clearly to me. This passage talks about having faith and trust in God, which is so crucial in our walk with God. It talks about the Spirit leading us. It talks about the closeness of the relationship that Simeon had with Christ. I felt that God was showing me the 'end' result of having a close relationship with him.
It's so amazing how through a man like Simeon, God shows what he desires from us. He wants our faith, our trust, he wants to be close to us.
So let us in turn, draw near to him.
Amen.
